Program Outcomes

The MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree and the 60-credit MAEd in School Counseling degree at EKU are again both accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). As part of its accreditation standards, CACREP requires annual reporting of the program’s “vital statistics” as well as assessment of the program and its students to contribute to ongoing improvements. Below you will find the program’s annual vital statistics, and the following page provides survey data generated from students, graduates, and program stakeholders.

Program Outcomes Report 2012-2013

The following data are provided as required by CACREP and CHEA.

Academic Year 2012-2013

MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

  • Number of program graduates: 14
  • Completion rate: 90 Percent

The vast majority of our students are employed and go through the program at their own rate taking from 3 –12 hours each semester and 3-12 in the summer session. Every course in the program is offered every semester so students complete the program as the other demands on their time and resources allow. There is no expectation for how quickly students must get through the program. Most however, finish in 2½ -3 years.

  • Licensure or certification examination pass rate: 100 Percent

This data is not available to the program except by self report by students/graduates. Neither the publisher of the licensure exam nor the state licensing board make the results available to the department.*

  • Job placement rate: 100 Percent

MAEd.D. in School Counseling

  • Number of program graduates: 23
  • Completion rate: 95

The vast majority of our students are employed and go through the program at their own rate taking from  3–12 hours each semester and 3-12 in the summer session. Every course in the program is offered every semester so students complete the program as the other demands on their time and resources allow. There is no expectation for how quickly students must get through the program. Most however, finish in 2½ -3 years.**

  • Licensure or certification examination pass rate: Not Applicable,

State does not require a certification/license exam for school counselors.

  • Job placement rate. 80 Percent

Most students in our school counseling program are employed as teachers and are committed to staying in their school districts until a school counseling position is available in the county (or a neighboring county) in which they reside.

*The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) has recently started reporting NCE results for students who have taken the NCE for NCC certification and those reports have indicated that 100 percent of our students have passed. They do not however, indicate who took the exam or in which program they were enrolled.

**The state requires six additional semester hours of the certified school counselor after they receive their school counseling degree and initial school counseling certification. The state also gives a significant pay raise to school counselors upon completion of 60 graduate hours. Therefore most of our students in this program graduate with 54 – 60 hours because while they are in the program they take the additional hours they know will be required after graduation and certification.

Counseling Program Survey Outcomes

The EKU Counselor Education program conducts annual surveys of its current students, supervisors and employers, and alumni. This regular program evaluation provides perspectives from a variety of important, necessary sources and allows faculty to make data-driven program development and improvement decisions. Current students, site supervisor/employers, and alumni are surveyed every spring, and those students enrolled in practicum and internship evaluate their sites and site supervisors at the end of every semester. The most recent survey reports can be found below.

Survey of Current Graduate Students

Each year current students are surveyed about topics including demographics, course delivery preferences, preferred course load, summer course interest, and other items as well as have the opportunity to share suggestions to improve the program and its processes.
